I recently had the huge privilege of having my piece, Speculations on a Rainbow, recorded by the NZSO at this year’s NZ Composer Sessions alongside four other New Zealand works. It was so wonderful to work with maestro Hamish McKeich again seven years after he conducted my first ever orchestral piece in this same venue with the NZSO seven years ago at the 2018 NZSO Todd Young Composer Awards.
This piece has been on a special journey so far – written for and premiered by the NYO in Wellington in 2024, then to Princeton where it was played beautifully by the New Jersey Symphony at the Cone Institute, now brought to life again by our exceptional national orchestra here in Aotearoa.
A huge thank you to SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and RNZ Concert for creating this invaluable platform for New Zealand music – past, present and future!
