I’m incredibly excited to be taking part in Flinders Quartet’s Emerge composer development program this year alongside three other emerging composers.
A little bit about the program:
The Emerge composer program offers an opportunity to work with Flinders Quartet in a year-long program of score study and deeply engaged learning about the craft of string quartet writing. During the course of the 2025 program, participating composers will write 6 minutes of string quartet music shaped by a brief, as part of a partnership with the renowned Hush Foundation. At the conclusion of the program, FQ will studio-record, perform and film the works.
One of the things I love most in this world is learning, and I know that I’m going to learn so much throughout the course of this program. I’m also really looking forward to working on a new piece for string quartet, as the last and only one I’ve written was in 2017!
The in-person aspect of the program takes place in Melbourne (where Flinders Quartet is based) so I’ll be traveling there for workshops and the final recording and performance later in the year.
