I’m going back to the States! I’m over the moon to have been selected to be an artist-in-residence at Willapa Bay, on the coast of Washington state, for the month of June 2025. This funded residency program has been running since 2014 and hosts six artists per month from April to October each year. One artist in each monthly cohort is a composer/songwriter.
I’m really excited to have this opportunity to focus on art-making without the many distractions of everyday life, and the chance to connect with fellow creatives at the same time. This is my first ‘traditional’ residency, and an international one at that, so it feels like quite a milestone for this composer from lil’ ol’ Aotearoa New Zealand – and I’m very grateful for it.
I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be fortunate enough to book in some other opportunities over the (northern hemisphere) summer so I can make this into an extended trip. Watch this space!
