I’m grateful to have two works included in this year’s New Zealand submission for the 2025 ISCM World New Music Days festival.
Each year The International Society for Contemporary Music holds the World New Music Days Festival, hosted annually by a different regional branch of the organisation. The Composers Association of NZ (CANZ) puts out an annual call for submissions of works by NZ composers, from which six are chosen to be sent on to the ISCM for potential programming in the next festival – this time taking place in Portugal in 2025.
My orchestral work, Speculations on a Rainbow, and my collaborative work with sonic artist Garling Wu, sounding bell, are among the six works that have been selected and put forward to the ISCM committee. It’s an honour to be included in this group alongside fellow NZ composers that I really look up to – John Rimmer, Alissa Long, Glen Downie, Chris Cree Brown
Expanding my international presence is one of my focus areas at the moment so having my work programmed in the festival would be an incredible opportunity. Whatever happens, I am looking forward to seeing whose work will be representing Aotearoa at the festival next year!
